MICHAEL SHEPHERD
Dr. Michael Shepherd assumed the role of dean at the Faculty of Computer Science in January of 2008 and was appointed to another two-year term in July, 2013. Dr. Shepherd brings years of experience as a professor and researcher in the Faculty of Computer Science, as well as Dalhousie’s Board of Governors, to his position as a senior administrator. During his tenure as dean, the Faculty of Computer Science has significantly increased research funding, launched internationally renowned research facilities and established partnerships with private industry that benefit both students and faculty members. He has been involved in the field of informatics for over thirty years and is a member of the ACM Special Interest Group in Information Retrieval, the American Society for Information Science, COACH, the American Medical Informatics Association, Health Level 7 and is a past-president of the Canadian Association for Information Science. Dr. Shepherd has also consulted to both industry and government at the local, national and international levels.?
